Ride for Kylie
Monday, May 22, 2006
A benefit was held on May 20, 2006 to help pay medical expenses for two year old Kylie Pierson. Kylie has a genetic brain disorder called Alpers Disease. Alpers has no known cure and most children who have this disease have a lifespan of less than ten years.
The benefit included a poker run, which took us through the beatiful countryside of Preble County. After the run, we filled up on pork and side dishes while listening to a live band.
Pictured with Kylie is her mom, Hope Pierson. She has a website to
celebrate Kylie's life and to raise awareness of this rare disease. Hope keeps a journal on her website which documents their struggles dealing with the disease, and the red tape of insurance companies and government aid.
Kylieslife.org explains what Alpers Disease is and offers web resources available. It also contains pictures of Kylie before she got sick. Please take a few minutes to read Hope's journal, it will move you in countless ways. Sign her guestbook and let her know that you were there. Please make a donation to help the Pierson Family. You can donate cash online, make a purchase at the
Kylies Life Awareness Shop or make a donation to the Kylie A. Pierson Fund at any Fifth Third Bank.
Please put the Piersons in your prayers. Pray to ease the battle that is just beginning for them.
