WheresTheRide.com Newsletter #1
December 2, 2005
Thank You So Very Much!
I want to start the very first newsletter with a very big thank you to everyone that visited WheresTheRide.com this summer and especially those of you that are still stopping by!
I am so thrilled that the website has become such a useful tool to everyone that uses it. It makes the time I spend on it much more enjoyable. I met a ton of bikers this summer, ranging everywhere from "hard core biker" to "I want my own!" It was a great summer and I can't wait for warm weather to come back around. Now, on to more important stuff......
Possible Helmet Law Change!
HB406 was introduced into the Ohio House of Representatives on November 7th to change the current age requirements for wearing a helmet. The current law requires anyone under 18 and all novice riders to wear a helmet at all times. The proposed changes would change the age to anyone under 25. This change would also affect any passengers on a motorcycle if the driver is under 25 years of age.
You can read the full bill at:
www.wherestheride.com/articles/hb406.php
I will be adding more information on how to contact your representatives and my opinions about this change and helmets in general early next week. I'll change the home page when I get these new pages added. (I just found out about this bill today and have a very busy weekend ahead of me.)
Harley Recalls Some 2006 Models
You may have already heard about this, but just in case you haven't, Harley Davidson issued a voluntary safety recall on 2006 model year Dyna series motorcycles built between June 9 and October 19, 2005.
The transmissions in the affected motorcycles have a defect which under certain circumstances may allow them to go into a false neutral position even though the neutral indicator light is illuminated.
Check with your dealer if you feel that you might have one of these motorcycles.
Website Happenings
Well, if you have visited WheresTheRide.com lately, I'm sure you've noticed absolutely nothing has changed! I have neglected the site something terrible. As a matter of fact, I kept trying to come up with something to even put in the newsletter and kept drawing blanks. Finally, today, when I read about the proposed changes in the helmet law, I got busy.
Traffic to the site has dropped considerably but I expected that. We're a fickle bunch, not wanting to ride in the cold.
For anyone interested, I posted a ride in Columbus for December 10th. It's a toy run benefiting needy children for Christmas. The ride is to three different adult clubs.
There is also a couple of trade shows coming up in February. These shows are not open to the public, but if you are a retailer in the motorcycle industry, you might be interested in attending. Check the calendar for details. www.wherestheride.com/main.php
As a reminder, clubs holding events over the winter are encouraged to post their events or to let me know so that I can post them.
Many times over the summer, I was asked if I make any money from the website. I wish I could say that I made enough to buy a new bike but that's just not the case. It has been a true labor of love, but a very enjoyable labor! There are ways that you can show your support and you can find those on the website at www.wherestheride.com/articles/show-your-support.php .
Suzie Notes
I expected the drop in traffic, but it when it happened it was still a bit depressing. So after I pouted a bit, I turned my energies into working on this old house of ours. Our "new" poolroom is now complete, the table recovered, and I have been practicing! If I manage to get out of Lewisburg, (or you get out this way) make sure you challenge me to a game on the table!
I'm working on another room which I hope to have done by Christmas and then I will take a much needed break. I am really sick of painting, repairing plaster and my house being a total wreck!
On a much lighter side, my beautful stepdaughter Molly, is getting married this weekend. THE PARTY'S ON!
The next newsletter won't go out until sometime after the first of the year, so I want to take this time wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a very safe and Happy New Year. Hope Santa brings you motorcycle stuff!
